Linda Rubin Wolf Jones, 83, of White Plains, NY, passed away on October 1, 2026, after bravely facing Alzheimer's disease. Born September 4, 1943, in Jersey City, NJ, to Eugene and Lottie Rubin, she was a wise, intelligent, compassionate, and non-judgmental woman who served as a trusted mentor and friend to so many.
A graduate of Snyder High School, Linda earned an A.B. with honors in French Language and Literature from Bryn Mawr College, an M.A.T. in French and Education from Yale University, and a doctorate in Social Welfare and Public Policy (D.S.W.) from Yeshiva University. In 2004, at the age of 60, she earned a Master of Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary.
Independent and career-driven, which was unique and courageous for her generation, Linda dedicated her career to public policy and social service. She served as Director of Public Policy at the YMCA of Greater New York, Director of Special Projects at Phoenix House Foundation, Director of Income Security Policy and Research at the Community Service Society of New York, and Executive Director of Therapeutic Communities of America. She later served as Project Director at Conwal, a division of Axiom Resource Management, and worked as a private consultant. After seminary, she became assistant pastor at Concord St. Andrews Methodist Church in Bethesda, MD, where she gave sermons, counseled members of the congregation in need, and was an active and loved member.
Linda lived most of her life in Westchester County, with a few years in Washington, DC, in the early 2000s. Becoming a grandmother in 2006 brought her home to New York to be closer to family, a role she loved. Known as "the Grandma with the white hair," she looked very much like an angel in the eyes of children. She was passionate about academics, culture, travel, language, and the arts. She spoke French fluently, lived in Holland for a year, and traveled extensively, including to Japan, Brazil, France, Portugal, Turkey, Greece, and Canada. She remained best friends with her Bryn Mawr roommate, Elinor Siklossy, her entire life, and she always made room at her Thanksgiving table for anyone who needed a place to go, no matter what.
Her proudest roles were as mother to Elisabeth Noel Jones and cherished grandmother of Beckett Leslie-Jones. In addition to them, she is survived by her sister, Rhoda Rubin, and her brother and sister-in-law, David and Florence Rubin. She was formerly married to Frank Jones, Elisabeth's father. She was predeceased by her parents and her longtime companion, Paul Wyszkowski, who passed in July 2024.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 5, from 4 to 8pm at Ballard-Durand, 2 Maple Avenue, White Plains. The funeral will be held Tuesday, October 6, at 10am at Church in the Highlands, 35 Bryant Avenue, followed by a reception from 11:30am to 1:30pm at Ballard-Durand. The funeral will be streamed live via Zoom. Because Linda faced Alzheimer's disease with such bravery, donations to the Alzheimer's Association are welcomed in her memory, as are flowers. Linda's famous last words on all communications were "peace & love," and she is remembered with both.
