Rita was born in Manhattan to Rose and Joseph Piteo. She was raised in the Bronx, with her two older brothers, Paul and Tom. After attending St. Helena's High School, Rita received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Pace University. She went on to earn her Masters of Science in Education from Fordham University.
Rita had a very accomplished career, most recently as Vice-President of Marketing at MAI Systems in Tarrytown. After retiring from the corporate world, she became a Certified Entrepreneurship Teacher for the White Plains Youth Bureau.
Rita was a talented artist and enjoyed dabbling in many different media. She created her own jewelry line with dichroic glass, brought to life many beautiful figurines using polymer clay, and enjoyed painting using various techniques. She enjoyed extensive traveling with her beloved husband Tom. "Nana Rita" treasured spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends.
Rita was predeceased by her parents, Rose and Joseph Piteo. She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas McTernan, her brothers, Thomas(Cie) and Paul(Lorraine) Piteo and her step-children Thomas(Patricia) McTernan and Beth(Michael) Horne. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ryan and Connor McTernan and Kaitlyn, Michael, Siobhan and Brianna Horne. Rita also leaves behind her nieces, Jessica Palmer-Piteo Gioburn and Heather Gray and nephews, Joseph and John Piteo, and his two children, Coda and Aria.
