Lucille "Nana" Smith was born in Sheldon Township of Beuford County, South Carolina on June 3, 1940 to Elijah and Elizabeth Johnson. She entered Heaven's gates on May 21, 2020.
Lucille attended White Plains Public School District in White Plains, NY. She married Russel Smith on March 17, 1957, who preceded her in death in 1992.
Lucille worked for White Plains Bus Company where she retired from in 1990. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in White Plains, NY where she served for many years and sang in the Gospel Chorus until she relocated in 2010 to Sheldon, SC. Her current church home is Cannan Baptist Church in Sheldon, SC under the leadership of Rev. Susan Johnson.
A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Lucille was a true example of a community mom with a deep love for family and friends. Lucille loved to love. She expressed her love to others through long talks, food and lots of laughter. Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32 - "And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgive you."
Lucille was predeceased by her loving husband of thirty five years (35), Russel Smith. She was also predeceased by her father and mother, Elijah and Elizabeth Johnson of Sheldon, SC, her brother James J. Bright of Beaufort, SC. Lucille is survived by her sisters Clara Major of Sheldon, SC, Emily Sumpter of New York, NY and sister-in-law Ernestine Bright of Beaufort, SC. She is survied by her beloved children; son Irvin Smith of White Plains, son Mark Smith of South Carolina, daughter Sonya Smith of White Plains, daughter Gwendolyn Smith of White Plains, and son Abdullah M. Alsalaam (Kimberly) of Nevada. She is also survived by eleven (11) grandchildren, Marcus Smith, Russell Smith, Shawán Crooks, Sharhonda Howell, Christopher Smith, Chardón Crooks, Javari Mack, Dayvon Smith, Sudan AlSalaam, Ayasha Morris, and Zachary Morris. She had seven (7) great-grandchildren, Corey Howell, Maliyah Howell, Giovanni Smith, Regan Smith, Christopher Smith, Jr., Riely Smith, and Chayse Cicero-Crooks. She is loved by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
