James "Toont" Bryant was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on December 31, 1938, to Fletcher Bryant and Ocell Woods. He was the third of fourteen children. His grandparents DeWitt and Mahalia Woods played a significant part in raising James and his 12 brothers and sister.

Toont made a few stops before settling in White Plains, NY. There he met and married Mary Helen Reed of Georgetown, SC. Together they raised 4 children, Marilyn Reed, Sharon Reed who has predeceased him, Kimberly Bryant Blanks and Aronda Bryant Franklin. Mary Helen passed away 2002.

His grandchildren are Janika Reed, Rondell Reed, Vanessa Franklin. One great grandchild Emoni Reed.

He is survived by two siblings, Mahalia Bryant, Tuskegee, Al and Algie Bryant, White Plains, NY.
Bryant siblings that have been called home are Ocie, Ernest, Henry Lee, Jessie Lee, Motel, John, Willie, Fletcher Jr., Edward, Alfred and Joseph.

James is well loved and respected by everyone that he met. He has many relatives and friends that mean so very much to him. Very special thank you to Ebbie Diane Renfroe and Shaun Davis.
