J. Charles Novotny Sr. passed away in his sleep on 4/22/18. He was 97 He is survived by his wife Evelyn Lockwood Novotny, sons J. Charles Novotny, Jr. and Paul L. Novotny, M.D. He is also survived by his sister Agnes Gulick and brother Edward Novotny. He was a loving father who was very proud of his four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He worked hard all his life, was a great dad, husband and provider for his family. Charlie was graduated from White Plains High School and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. As a youngster he learned the game of golf as a caddy and before long became a professional golfer. He played on the PGA Tour in the 1940's. In competition he shot several 9's under 30, among his many golf accomplishments. Charlie even set the course record of 64 at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle in 1946. 64 was a remarkably low number given the nature of the equipment of that era. The game of Golf is a metaphor for life and Charlie understood that. As a teaching professional he brought the joy the game of golf to many aspiring golfers over the decades and was loved by all. Sports was his favorite pastime. and he was an avid New York Giants and New York Yankees fan. He rarely missed a ballgame, and of course never missed the Major Golf Tournaments. Charlie's secrets to longevity undoubtedly included his "Don't sweat the small stuff" attitude and the occasional adult beverage which he would pour, jovially exclaiming, "A little dab 'll do ya!"
