Our beautiful mother and grandmother, passed away on October 1, 2022, surrounded by her loving children, from Alzheimer's disease. Our hearts are broken by the loss of this beautiful woman, who lived her life devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren. Caterina "Rina" Evangelista was born on September 11, 1940, the daughter of Francesco Scopelliti and Maria Giordano in Reggio Calabria, Italy, the eldest of five children. On October 11, 1959, she married her one and only true love, Antonio Evangelista, who passed away on October 12, 2021. Together they raised their family in West Harrison, NY and filled their lives with so much love. She leaves behind her children, Debbie Evangelista-Zumbo (John Coleman), Anthony Evangelista (Ana), Frank Evangelista (Anna) and Lisa Carlucci (Mike), as well as, her loving grandchildren, Anthony, Michael, Stephen, Johnny (Emily), Amanda, Mikey, Frank, Lianna (Brian), Ariana and Christopher. Our beautiful mother was always there for each and every one of us, whether it was to wipe away our tears or smile and rejoice in our accomplishments. Mom had the face of a beauty queen and the heart of Mother Theresa. She gave so much of herself to everyone and her needs were secondary to anyone else. Her favorite past time was to be in the kitchen baking, especially surrounded by her grandchildren. She also enjoyed going for walks with her children and spending time on the beach in Rhode Island with her husband and family. We were blessed to have had the honor of remaining close by her side these last couple of years. To make her smile and laugh and to give her the best possible life, regardless of what this disease did to her. Mom was the light of our life and our lives will never be the same without her.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking that donations be made to either the Alzheimer's Association or to Calvary Hospice of the Bronx, who gave mom amazing care during these last few months.
