Yolanda Albertina Hidalgo, sister to eight, mother to seven, grandmother to fourteen, great grandmother to one and friend to many, was born on August 7, 1941 in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

She married Carlos Hidalgo at the age of 19. In 1968 she emigrated to New York City. She worked in a factory and at home as a seamstress in order to provide for her family. Her husband's passing became a form of motivation, inspiration and freedom. Although she was devastated by the passing of her son Ruben in 1995, she knew she had to be strong.

Having only a 6th grade education she went back to school, learned English, received her GED, and then an Associates Degree in Education. Then she secured a position with the New York City Department of Education, from which she retired in 2012.

Through many adversities Yolie never complained about her choices or hardships. Instead, she was willing to help anyone who sought her wisdom. Those who knew her know that she was a loving and caring individual who put others before herself.

Yolanda loved plants, nature, cooking, reading her bible, crosswords puzzles, music, traveling, and was a strong believer in the Catholic faith. When she became aware of her illness she said "Let it be God's will."

Yolanda will be remembered as a selfless mother, sister, grandparent and friend who always had a smile on her face even when times were tough. She had a quiet inner strength and never wavered no matter what life threw at her.

She is survived by her children, Carlos Luis, Ruben (predeceased 1995) Absalon, Francisco, Yolanda, Maureen, Christina . Siblings, Luis Enrique (predeceased 2005) Edmundo, Olga, Teresa, Rosa, Julio (predeceased 2020), Luis, Maria and, Sara. Grandchildren, Carlos, Victoria, Nicholas, Casey, Robin, Brianna, Elizabeth, Gabrielle Teresa, Ava, Neil, Rayanne, Aiden and Chloe. Great grandchild Grace.

Although we are greatly saddened by her untimely departure we are content knowing that she lived life to the fullest. Our beloved mother, Yolanda Albertina Hidalgo, will live in our hearts forever.

Nietos, Carlos, Victoria, Nicholas, Casey, Robin, Brianna, Elizabeth, Gabrielle Teresa, Ava, Neil, Rayanne, Aiden y Chloe. Bisnieto Grace.
