Winifred J. Kohany

Winifred J. Kohany 90, of Valhalla, N.Y. passed away on Feb.5, 2013. She was born on Sept.13, 1922 in Bronx, N.Y. to the late Thomas and Anne Maloney. She married John Kohany a WWII purple heart recipient on Oct. 18, 1947 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Chapel. Winifred was a long time parishioner and member of the Holy Rosary Society at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Valhalla. She was also a member of the American Legion Post 1038 in Valhalla. She worked for B Altmans in White Plains. Mrs. Kohany was an avid reader and enjoyed outdoor winter sports earlier in life. Her family was her beginning and her end. She is predeceased by her husband John in 1961 and eight siblings. She is survived by her brother Thomas Maloney and her four children, Judith (Michael) Marks, John Kohany, Patricia Kohany and Michael (Lori) Kohany. Also survived by her nine grandchildren, Josh, Emily, Matthew, Scott, Jennifer, Timothy, Michael, Michelle and Thomas and two great grandchildren, Noah and Molly. Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home, on Friday, 4-8 PM. Funeral Mass, Holy Name of Jesus Church, Valhalla, N.Y. on Saturday 10 AM. Interment, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y.
