William A. Preiser, a longtime Greenburgh resident, died unexpectedly on August 12, 2011 in Andes, NY. He had been en route with his son Andrew and a 1942 Brockway to participate in his 10th annual Brockway Truck Show in Cortland, NY.
Bill was born on October 31, 1924 to the late Genevieve Coombs and Albert Preiser in White Plains where he attended city schools. From high school he enlisted in the Navy. He saw action in the American and Asiatic Pacific theaters and the Philippines liberation. He worked for decades, until his retirement, with his brothers in the trucking and rigging business founded by their father.
Bill delighted in his family. He is survived by his brother Edwin of White Plains, his wife of 51 years Ella, sons Andrew and Glenn, daughter-in-law Danielle, and grandchildren Jacqueline and Brittany Martin, Frank Tirri III, and John William and DinaMarie Preiser. He was predeceased by sisters Genevieve and Gloria (Cartledge) and brothers Albert, Adrian and George.
Visiting hours are Sunday 2-4 & 7-9pm at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Ave, White Plains. A Service celebrating Bill's life will be held on Monday 11:30am at Grace Church, 33 Church Street, White Plains. Interment will follow at White Plains Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Grace Church.
