William (Bill) B. Oakes

William B. Oakes, Jr. (Bill) 80, of Hawthorne, N.Y. died on Sept.13, 2013. Beloved husband of Marie Harley-Oakes, father of Nancy J. Oakes, William B. Oakes III and John Oakes. Step-father of Dan Harley and Sally Silvestro. Grandfather of Carey Oakes, Sara Oakes, John Silvestro, John Harley and Brendan Harley. Uncle to many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Bill is predeceased by his first wife, Nancy Naunheim Oakes, his brothers, James A. Oakes and Thomas J. Oakes. Bill was born in Queens, raised in Boiceville, N.Y. and Scarsdale, N.Y. He proudly served in the US Air Force. He founded the Catholic Widows and Widowers Club, which operated in many parishes in NY and CT. He was active in Boy Scouts, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus and American Legion. Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home on Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass, Holy Rosary Church, Hawthorne, N.Y. on Wednesday, 10 AM. Interment, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Institute for Clinical Research, Inc room 1F, VA Medical Center 50 Irving Street N.W. Washington D.C. 20422. Attn: Dr. Dalia Mobarek.
