We are sad to announce that William (Bill) Finan passed away on April 13, 2025 after 93 well-lived years.

Bill, as he was known, was a strong presence in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him.

Bill was born on February 11, 1932 in White Plains, NY, the son of Margaret Regan of County Roscommon, Ireland and William Finan of County Sligo, and was the oldest of five children.

Bill was a great scholar, a gifted athlete, and learned the value of hard work from his parents.

Bill is survived by his loving wife Maureen née Whelan of County Tipperary. Together they raised seven children: William, Barbara (Charles), Joseph (Tracey), Eileen (Michael), Maureen, Sheila and Margaret (Louis). He was also a very proud grandfather to eleven adored grandchildren: Kathleen (Mike), Laura Jeanne, Matthew (Caroline), Patrick (Gabrielle), Maureen, Caitlin, Erika, Chad, Faith, Claire and Michael and three precious great-grandchildren: Emma, Patrick and Clementine.

Bill is also survived by his siblings Patricia and John (Ann) and was predeceased by his parents, his siblings Jeanne (Vincent), James (Lucille), his daughter-in-law Jeanne-Marie, and many other family members and friends.

He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Katonah and Fordham University. He had a great love of his country and proudly served in the US Army. He was a CPA, having started his career at Arthur Young and worked in finance positions at various companies, ending his career at the Bank of Boston.

In addition to having a rich and fulfilling career, Bill also took much joy in reading and sharing his knowledge with his family. He traveled extensively throughout his career and life, but his favorite place to visit was Ireland. He was incredibly proud of his Irish heritage and loved listening to Irish music. Bill had a strong and unwavering Catholic faith. He was a life-long parishioner of Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne, New York where he served for many years as an usher and on the Finance Committee of the Parish Council. He was also a strong believer in Catholic education, and he and Maureen prioritized educating their children in Catholic schools.

He had a quiet, studious and serious nature but loved to laugh. He loved animals, reading the Wall Street Journal cover to cover, playing golf, and watching the Dodgers and the NY Rangers. Bill was very organized, had beautiful handwriting, loved spending time with his family and eating anything and everything Maureen cooked for him! He will be missed greatly and left a lasting lesson on how to age gracefully, often quoting the gospel passage, "Not my will but thy will be done".

His eternal rest is well-deserved.
