Walter M. Svec, 85, of Deerfield Beach, Florida, passed away from natural causes in Hazlet, New Jersey on November 28, 2023. Prior to residing in Florida, Walter lived in the Town of Greenburgh from 1972 until 2022.
Walter was born in Manhattan, New York on December 28, 1937, the fourth son of John J. and Josephine Ryan Svec. He attended Cardinal Hayes High School, then began a long career at Chase Manhattan Bank. In 1968 Walter married Marilyn V. Sacco of the Bronx; the couple initially lived in Pelham, prior to settling in Greenburgh.
Walter served in the United States Army from 1957 until 1959. Upon honorable discharge, he resumed his Chase career, while earning his Bachelor’s degree at Fordham University, and Master’s degree at Pace University.
Walter was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church in Valhalla, New York. His hobbies included playing bridge, reading, and vacationing with Marilyn in summer at Westerly, Rhode Island, and winter in Florida.
Walter is survived by brother Peter Svec of Farmingville, New York, nieces and nephew, and godchildren. He became widowed in 2020, and was preceded in death by brothers John and Frank.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Valhalla, New York on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 10 AM, followed by entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York. Family and friends are invited to post a memoriam at BallardDurand.com.
The Svec family gives thanks to the staff at Arnold Walter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hazlet, New Jersey, and niece Christine McGrade for their passionate care to Walter during his final days.
