Vojko Sime Milin left us on December 27th at his home in Hudson, NY surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He leaves behind his brothers Svetko and Berislav of Zagreb & Zadar, Croatia & their families, his children- Anthony of Hartford Ct, Victor of Philmont, NY, Gregory of New York City, and Laura of West Harrison- his daughters-in-law Cindy Milin & Mindy Gardner, and his granddaughters Leonie & Anjelica. His beloved wife Maria (Girardon) Milin of New York City passed away in 2009. A native of Zadar, Croatia , Vojko graduated from The Technical School of Yugoslavia at age 16 as a Master Machinist in Metallurgy. At the age of 18, he escaped by rowboat from communist Yugoslavia to Italy where he received asylum as a political refugee. After emigrating to the United States in 1956. Vojko spent the next 30 years creating and designing toys for Ideal Toy Company, Hasbro, Child Guidance and CBS Toys. In 1986, he joined the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City as a BioMechanic and designed tools, machines and prosthesis used by the surgeons and Engineers for hip and knee replacements until his retirement. He is a holder of several US patents for his work designing toys and surgical tools including the Patella resection clamp. One of his personal creations sits in the Nixon Presidential library in Yorba Linda, California. "Home of the Brave" Reposing Hawthorne Funeral Home on Sunday 3 – 7 PM.
