Violet F. Slavik (Bunny) 81, of Hawthorne, N.Y. passed away on Oct. 17, 2019 with her family at her side. Bunny, (a nickname given to her by her Aunt when she was a baby – she said, “She’s as cute as a bunny” and it stuck!) was born to the late Charles and Violet (nee McLaughlin) Yelk on February 7, 1938 in New York City. She married the late William Slavik and they lived together in NYC until they relocated to Corona Queens in 1962 where they raised their 5 children. Bunny was predeceased by her loving husband, William Slavik in 1985 and by her beloved children, Joseph T. Slavik (2019), William J. Slavik (2005) and Mary Slavik (2019). Bunny leaves behind her two loving daughters, Ann (Patrick) Sementa and Karen Quinlan both of Hawthorne, N.Y. She also leaves behind six wonderful grandchildren that she cherished, Billy (Juliana) Slavik, James Sementa, Brian (Antoinette) Sementa, Victoria, Slavik, Kaitlyn Sementa and Alyssa Quinlan, four precious great grandchildren, Larissa, Ariella, Giovanni and Julian, her Godchild Barbara Rappo and many other family and friends that adored her. She appreciated the small pleasures in life, spending time with family, watching classic B&W movies, catching a musical on Broadway, and a quick drive over to Empire Casino just to name a few. She loved vacationing with her family, especially the annual Lake George trip. Every day, (sometimes twice!) you would have a Bunny sighting at Pop’s Deli for her decaf coffee. One of her favorite activities was the monthly card parties where she enjoyed playing cards, laughing with family and friends and snacking on some of her favorite sweet treats. Bunny was wonderful and heartwarming Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and friend. We are all so grateful she was part of our lives and our hearts will never fully mend at her loss. Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home, on Sunday 10/20, 1-3 PM. Funeral Mass, Holy Rosary Church, Hawthorne, N.Y. on Monday 10/21, 10 AM. Interment, Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Flushing, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Memphis, Tenn. in her name would be appreciated. An organization close to her heart.
