Vincent F. Stanley, Jr., 72, of Eastchester, New York, passed away in his home on October 9th, 2019.
Known as ‘Skip’, (a nickname given to him when he was a baby as he was ‘Skipper’ of the house) was born to the late Vincent Francis and Kathryn (nee Tahaney) Stanley, Sr. on January 22, 1947 in Eastchester, NY. A life-long resident of Eastchester, he graduated from Immaculate Conception elementary school and Archbishop Stepinac High School in 1964. He went directly into the US Navy Reserve from high school. He served his entire four year enlistment aboard the USS Mullinix DD-944 and was a Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class.
His proudest achievement was crossing the equator in a time-honored naval ceremony achieving the status of ‘shellback’ during a cruise in the Pacific, in October of 1967. This gave him bragging rights over two of his three uncles who were also Navy men of long service.
Leaving the service, he was employed by Revlon, Inc. as a Sales Administrator. He was also active in service to his local community serving on local town committees.
He is survived by first cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Stanley, Mr. and Mrs. George P. Stanley, Jr., Patricia E. Stanley, is pre-deceased by Mrs. Rosemary Stanley-McCann, all reside in New Jersey. Also surviving are, Mr. & Mrs. Philip Stanley of upstate New York, Mrs. Bonnie Stanley Birkel of Maryland, Ms. Colleen Stanley of Florida and Mrs. Laurie Stanley Landeen of South Dakota.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on November 6th, 2019 at 1PM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at 10 West Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, NY. Interment to follow.
