Victoria Varvaro Lawson

October 2, 1916 — January 18, 2004

Victoria Varvaro Lawson was born in 1916, in Greenburgh, NY. As a young adult, Victoria decided she wanted to help others. During the Second World War, she worked in Washington, DC where she interacted with members of the White House, Congress, and the US Senate. She visited injured soldiers at local hospitals. During one of her visits she met Edward R. Lawson, a wounded Marine, who eventually married her. They returned to New York and raised a family of two daughters: Eunice and Madeline, and a son, named Edward. Victoria continued her involvement in public affairs by starting her own Newspaper, called The Fairview News, which became a vehicle for her efforts to improve community life and education for children. Victoria Lawson believed no child should ever be left behind and so she helped all children with their academics, "reading, writing, and arithmetic" as she would call it. When any child would ask her a question she would encourage the child to get the appropriate volume of the encyclopedia and read the articles from the source. Her grandchildren: Kristopher and Keath Irizarry, were loved immensely and she nurtured their academic spirit from the day they were born. Her love of history was the focus of many stories. Victoria Lawson was a very kind hearted woman who dedicated her entire life to making a difference in children's lives. She was loved greatly by her family, and will be equally missed. We love you Victoria! And will always remember you! Reposing Hawthorne Funeral Home Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass Friday 10 AM Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, White Plains, NY.
