Vera B Rosen

Vera B. Rosen (nee Kassel), a longtime resident of White Plains and New Rochelle, died unexpectedly on August 3, 2017. She was 91. She was born in Oppeln, Germany on January 30, 1926. On November 10, 1938, the day after Kristalnacht, she was forced to flee her home with her family as an angry mob ransacked the house. They made their way to England and then eventually the United States. She attended George Washington High School and then graduated from Hunter College with dual degrees in Biology and Chemistry. While visiting family in South America, she met Nathan Rosen, and American who was the sales manager for an American textile firm. Two weeks later, they were engaged and were married for 43 years until Nat's death in 1991. Vera had an amazingly fulfilled life. She had a deep appreciation for the arts, especially opera, and traveled extensively throughout the world, including to Tanzania on safari at the age of 88. She was a superb cook and a cunning bridge player. Most importantly, she was the beloved matriarch of a family that she adored. Vera is survived by her son David (Patricia Royman), daughter Claudia (Lisa Rudikoff) and son Daniel (Rachel Freedman), 9 grandchildren, Gabriel, Jenny, Jonah, Dinah, Thomas, Isaac, Natasha, Alex and Matthew, and 4 great-grandchildren, Archer, Nate, Ada, and Isabella. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 6th at 10 AM at Congregation Kol Ami Chapel in the Woods. Interment will follow at Sharon Gardens.
