Thomas L. Moro a long time resident of Ossining, NY passed away on July 28, 2011 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home. He was 85. Mr. Moro was born in Peekskill, NY on December 24, 1925 to Josephine and Paul Moro. His father was one of Americas first Impressionist. As a high school student Tom learned to expertly reline old oil paintings in his father's studio (Moro Studios in New York City). He was a graduate of Peekskill High School, then entered NYS Maritime Academy at Ft. Scuyler, NY. Upon graduation in 1945 he became an officer in the US Navy and served during the end of World War II and the Korean War. His intention to remain in the Navy ended in 1954 with the death of his father and the need for him to join his brother Francis Moro as a partner in maintaining the family business. He continued with Moro Studios until retirement. Tom was a member of St. Theresa Church in Briarcliff Manor. He will be remembered for his love of the sea, and he enjoyed years of boating and the Hudson River, participating in sports with his son Bob, playing golf and pinochle with his good friends in Ossining. He also enjoyed the yearly summer vacations with his entire family on Cape Cod. He is survived by his wife Margaret Milner Moro, formerly of Bay Ridge in Brooklyn and later Wappinger's Falls, NY and his devoted son Robert (Bob) Moro, a professional golfer. Also surviving are his loving granddaughters Lindsay and Kimberly Moro, his dear sister Bianca Zuccari of Briarcliff Manor and her children Frank, Cristina, Paula and their loved ones. He was also close to cousins Alma and Frank, as well as his wife's sister Rosemary and her husband Joseph McGuirk and their 5 children and families. Family members who predeceased him include their beloved daughter Kathy (Kathleen) who at age six and one half in 1964, died in a tragic drowning accident on Cape Cod. He was also predeceased by his brother Francis Moro of Briarcliff Manor and his loving sister Roma Hughes of Boca Raton, Fl., as well as her husband Douglas. Calling hours will be at the Hawthorne Funeral Home, 21 W. Stevens Ave., Hawthorne, NY 10532 on Monday from 5-8pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. Theresa's Church on Tuesday at 10am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorial donations can be sent to Alzheimer's Disease Research.
