Thomas Marriott 74, formerly of Hawthorne, N.Y. passed away on October 31, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on April 18, 1947 and grew up in Hawthorne where he attended the Mt. Pleasant Schools and graduated from Westlake High School. As a talented artist he attended the School of Visual Arts. His time there was interrupted by the Vietnam War where he was a helicopter mechanic. After his service he resumed his education at the SVA and graduated in 1971. He then went on to get an associate degree from Westchester Community College and a bachelor’s degree from Mercy College. His thirst for knowledge didn’t end there as he continued to take courses at Manhattanville College and Pace University where he was employed as a maintenance mechanic until he retired. He was a free spirit, a voracious reader, very mechanically inclined and a talented artist. Always willing to lend a hand, he could fix just about anything. After his time in the service he raced motocross for several years, was a free lance car tester for Popular Science Magazine, and a motor cycle mechanic. He loved to ski, roller blade and was an avid bicyclist having ridden in every state from Maine to South Carolina, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Utah and Minnesota. He continued to ride into his 70’s.
Tom is survived by his only brother, George Marriott and his sister in law, Sally of Thornwood, N.Y. four beloved nieces and nephews and their children. A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Hawthorne Funeral Home on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021 from 12 noon – 2 PM.
