Stephen V Malo

March 5, 1946 — June 12, 2016

Born on March 5, 1946 Departed on June 12, 2016

On June 12, 2016, Stephen Victor Malo passed away at the age of 70. His loving wife of 45 years, Terri, his children and loved ones were by his side. The 10 year struggle with Alzheimer's disease has now mercifully come to an end and Steve is at peace.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife Theresa (Tanguay), daughter Cynthia Faustino, her husband Peter and their daughters Emily, Courtney and Katelyn. Son Andrew, his fiancée Melissa and their children Christopher, Abigail, Jonathan and Faith. And Steve's younger son David. He is also survived by his mother Dempsey and brother Mike; as well as numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews spanning the country.
Steve was born at home in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on March 5, 1946. He was the oldest child of George and Dempsey Malo along with sister, Ruth and brother, Mike. The Rhode Island native attended St. Leo's Catholic School, St. Raphael Academy and graduated from Providence College with his bachelor's degree in Business.
Married to Terri on October 4, 1970 they purchased Steve's family home on Suffolk Avenue in Pawtucket and raised their three children, Cynthia, Andrew and David until his job transfer in July, 1990 brought them to Long Island, NY where they resided until Steve retired in June, 2006. Steve and Terri moved to CT in June, 2006 and then to Rye Brook, NY in January, 2011.
Steve had an illustrious career in banking. His first job was in finance with Industrial National Bank in Providence, RI. As it turns out, he never left that company! Despite the bank changing to Fleet Financial Group and later to Bank of America, he continued to work hard and remain loyal and was ultimately promoted to Senior Vice President. He used to joke, "There are lots of Vice Presidents at the company, but only a few SENIOR Vice Presidents".
Steve will be remembered for the countless hours he spent with his children, a fixture in the dugout coaching baseball to all three children. He enjoyed traveling with his family and often would have a plane ticket stuffed in their holiday stocking. He was a caring, hands-on father who provided lots of learning experiences and opportunities for life lessons.
Another outstanding quality in Steve was his good nature sense of humor and wit. He truly enjoyed time spent with Terri's large family for traditional holiday gatherings or smaller card parties. His jokes and banter could always put a smile on people's faces.
He was also a Renaissance type of man. Steve played the organ in a band through college and for many years after. He even recorded a song with the band! And he was always happy to be asked to play for family weddings. He was athletic and enjoyed racquetball, tennis and especially golf. He was a low handicap golfer. He was an amateur pilot and served in the Rhode Island National Guard. Steve was the reigning Ping Pong champion on every cruise ship he boarded. He dabbled in painting and baking bread with the children, making homemade pasta and growing gardens and fruit trees in his backyard. He handled all of the home repairs and upgrades, whether re-tiling the kitchen floor, shingling the house, building cabinets from scratch, or repairing a hold in the ceiling that he made when he fell through.
He relished his morning tea, reading the paper, as well as bacon and eggs on weekends. Steve is credited with being the original DVR, recording every TV show in a library of VHS tapes. His culinary favorites were wieners, chocolate chip cookies and homemade peanut butter squares. But don't ask him to share. He was also famous for his "Daddy Tax", snagging a piece or two of pepperoni off an unprotected slice of pizza.
To remember Steve is to remember his intelligence, integrity and wit. He lived a full life and there was almost nothing he could not do.
A day of celebration will be held on July 3rd, 2016 at St. Kevin's Church Hall in Warwick, RI from 1:30 until 5 p.m. The family asks simply for your thoughts and prayers.
