Salvatore "Sal" Pappalardo, 92, passed into eternal rest on July 10, 2017 surrounded by family. He was born on December 15, 1924 in New York City to Mary (Toscano) and Leonard Pappalardo. He grew up in the Bronx and lived most of his adult life in White Plains. He was predeceased by Peggy, his wife of 63 years. Sal and Peggy enjoyed traveling the world and visited five continents. Sal loved spending time with his family and was extremely proud of all of his children and grandchildren. He was also an avid gardener. He is survived by his children, Richard and wife Karen, formerly of Elmsford, now Landenberg, PA, Monica Rusko and husband Richie, Hopewell Jct., NY, Denise and husband Jack Kessler, Southborough, MA, and Gerard and wife Jacqueline, Ossining, NY. He was the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren and three great grandsons. Also surviving are his brother Leonard and wife Gloria, sister-in-law Eileen, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Sal graduated from Iona College with a B.S. in chemistry and worked most of his career for Bristol Myers. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the ETO. He was active in the community having served for several years as president of the local chapter of the Lions Club International. The family is especially grateful to those who cared for Sal during the last few years including Sandra, Val'rie, Maureen, and Doreen, but especially Marlene. Visiting is scheduled for 2:00 to 4:00 pm to 6:00 to 8:00 pm on July 24, 2017 at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 72 E. Main St. Elmsford, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on July 25, 2017 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Elmsford, followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association at 225 N. Michigan Ave., FL17, Chicago, IL 60601 or alz.org.
