Ruth Roth Hothorn, 100, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2011. Born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on April 20, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Stella Acker Roth. Ruth was a graduate of East Stroudsburg College, and held elementary school teaching certificates in Pennsylvania and New York. Married to Kurt E. Hothorn on July 18, 1931, they settled first in Tuckahoe, N.Y., and shortly thereafter moved to Scarsdale, where they raised their family and resided for sixty years. Ruth enjoyed a lifetime of volunteer positions, and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and The Woman's Club of White Plains. She traveled extensively with her husband during retirement years, and enjoyed vacation homes in both Nantucket and Barbados. Her greatest loves were family, dear friends, and her beloved pets. She was an avid reader, enjoyed a lifelong appreciation of music, and was a patron of the Metropolitan Opera for decades. Ruth was pre-deceased by her husband Kurt, and one sister, Helen Saylor. She is survived by her daughter, Mitzi Renz (Bud) of White Plains, N.Y., and her son, Kurt Hothorn, Jr. (Cheryl) of Greenwich, Ct. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Tim, Jon, and Rick Renz, and seven great-grandchildren: Seth, Alyssa, Jonathan, Jennifer, Katie, Tyler and Sara Renz. A funeral service will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, January 8th at Trinity Lutheran Church, 25 Crane Rd., Scarsdale, with interment immediately following at Kensico Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Ruth asked that Memorial contributions be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 25 Crane Rd., Scarsdale, N.Y. 10583.
