After a long and happy life, Russell Joseph Hoag died peacefully on January 30, 2019 at the age of 95. He was born at the United States Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba on February 2, 1923 to Anne and James Hoag. He had one sister, Anne Hoag Lewis, who pre-deceased him. On August 5, 1945, he married the late Mildred Carideo also from White Plains. He eventually moved to Valhalla, New York where he lived the rest of his life. He joined the Navy at 19, following the attack on Pearl Harbor. After over 40 years he retired from Metro North Railroad. Throughout his lifetime, he volunteered for the Valhalla Fire Department, the Auxiliary Police, and he was a life-long Freemason. He enjoyed a long retirement with his wife Mildred. They traveled and spent time with their family and the many friends they made in Valhalla. He was a devoted husband and father and is survived by his three children, Patricia Hoag Adams, Barbara Hoag Helgesen, and Stephen Hoag. He is also survived by ten loving Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held for family and close friends.
