Rudolph ‘Rudy' D. Nabel passed away at age 86 on February 26, 2021 in Williamsburg, Va. Rudy was born in New Rochelle, NY on December 3, 1934 and grew up in White Plains, NY. His parents, Rudolph and Mary Ann (Sumetz) Nabel, started Nabel's Nurseries in 1942 and at age 8 Rudy was learning to follow in his father's footsteps. After the passing of his parents, Rudy was the proud co-owner of Nabel's Nurseries until his retirement and the business continued until his youngest brother, Paul, also retired. Rudy was predeceased by both parents as well as his first wife, Joan Carmen Nabel, their daughter Marlene, his sister Erica Nabel Hogle and younger brother John Nabel. Rudy is survived by his sons Jeffrey, Christopher and his daughter Heather Nabel, his sister Rosemarie Nabel (Herbert) Hoffman of Poughkeepsie, NY, brother Kenneth (Teresa) Nabel of East Patchogue, NY, brother Paul (Kathie) Nabel of White Plains, NY, and numerous nieces and nephews. Rudy's second wife, Helen Deirdre Healy Nabel continues to reside at Williamsburg Landing Retirement Home. Rudy and Deirdre enjoyed many years together and traveled extensively in the world. They particularly enjoyed visiting Deirdre's beloved family in Ireland. Rudy was blessed with many friends and business associates through membership in several Nurseryman's Associations and through the displays he created for Rockefeller Center, Bryant Park in New York City and for the White Plains Beautification Foundation, White Plains, NY. Many will miss Rudy's outgoing personality including car dealers and travel agents. Due to COVID precautions, the Nabel family will have a private viewing at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home in White Plains followed by entombment at Ferncliff Mausoleum, Hartsdale, NY.
