Rosalie Stephens

Rosalie Peacock entered the world on February 16, 1928 in Yonkers, NY, born into the family of Charles and Julia E. Peacock. Rosalie attended the Washington Irving High School in Tarrytown, NY, graduating in June, 1946. She studied shorthand and became an excellent stenographer and always wanted to be known as a good secretary. She learned to play a brass instrument in The Salvation Army and developed her voice. She became a sought after soprano soloist and attended Star Lake Music Camp, NJ. She traveled to Los Angeles, CA in 1952 where she met her husband. In 1963, they arrived in the Bronx, NY, became members of "The Proclaimers of the Faith Session", and were commissioned as FA Officers in The Salvation Army in 1965. Rosalie and her husband served together in the following appointments: Port Jervis, NY(1965), Cleveland, OH(1967), Brockton, MA(1969), Newark, NJ(1971), Hartford, CT(1984), Boston, MA(1990). In Boston Rosalie was the Director of Special Services. In Newark, ARC, Rosalie took care of about 35 foster babies – most of whom were only 2 or 3 days old - right from the hospital. Rosalie entered Honorable Retirement on June 30, 1994, along with husband and they eventually settled in Clearwater, FL. Please remember in prayer her dear family, beloved husband, Major William Stephens of Clearwater, Florida; sons, William Mark (Mary Beth), Stephens of Apopka, Florida, Chris (Aubrey) Stephens, of Pennsylvania, and daughter, Major Stefanie (Celestin) Nknounkou of Tonawanda, New York, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. The first of two arrangements are as follows:
Visitation, Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at The Salvation Army Clearwater Corps, 1625 N. Belcher Rd., Clearwater, FL, Phone (727) 725-9777 at 12 noon and 1:30pm Celebration of Life.
The NY arrangement will be as follows:
Visitation, Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Hawthorne Funeral Home, 21 West Stevens Ave., Hawthorne, NY 10532, Phone (914) 769-4404 at 11am, 12 noon Celebration of Life. Interment will follow at Kensico Cemetery at 1pm (273 Lakeview Ave., Valhalla, NY 10595).
