Robert Wendall Stieve passed away on May 7, 2018 in New Jersey at peace with his family by his side.
Robert grew up in Millburn, New Jersey. He was the third son to Theodore Stieve and Marie Stieve (Nolte). After graduating high school, through a little bit of mischief, Robert entered the Army in 1953, where he drove tanks and was stationed in Germany. He later obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL. Throughout high school, the Army and college Robert played baseball. He was a pitcher and was considered to have a good arm. Robert moved to Chicago and earned a law degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. While in Chicago he met the love of his life, Eleonore, on a blind date. The two fell in love and were soon married.
Robert moved to New York with his new wife after his graduation and began a family. They lived in Yonkers, Hartsdale, and Valhalla. He was an attorney with the Legal Aid Society of Westchester County from 1969 until his retirement in 2002. He enjoyed lifting weights in his garage and spending time in the back yard of the family home, where he lived for over 40 years. Robert was a loving caregiver to Eleonore during her final years.
He was preceded in death by Eleonore Stieve (Denker) in 2014 and is survived by two brothers Theodore and Richard; sons Douglas Robert and Thomas Wendel; daughter-in-law, Lisa Ann; two grandchildren Michael and Christine and many nephews and nieces.
