Robert G. Mellor

Robert G. Mellor 88, of Venice, Fla and formerly of Hawthorne, N.Y. went to be with his Lord and Savior on Feb.8, 2012. He was born on July 12, 1923 in Yonkers, N.Y. He served in WWII in the Navy as a pharmacist mate in the South Pacific. Robert married Evelyn Groen in 1949 and they had two children Gary and Laurie. Bob was Master of the Fern Brook Masonic Lodge in Yonkers. He was a former chief and commissioner of the Hawthorne Fire Department and a volunteer there for 45 years. Bob was a member of the Hawthorne Reformed Church and also served as a deacon there. He retired from Con Edison after 40 years. Bob and Evelyn were avid travelers visiting almost every country in the world before moving to Florida. He is survived by his wife Evelyn of Venice, Fla., a son Gary and his wife Sherry of Wayne, N.J., a daughter Laurie of Rotonda, Fla. and two grandchildren; Kristy of Raleigh, NC and Daniel of Rotonda, Fla. Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home on Friday 5-9 PM where funeral services will be held on Saturday 1 PM. Interment Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y. In lieu of flowers donations to Hawthorne Reformed Church 65 Broadway, Hawthorne, N.Y. 10532 would be appreciated.
