Robert E. DeRight Jr. passed away on February 13th, 2016 from lung failure. He was born in Wilmington, Delaware, a descendant of 1639 Griswold immigrant from England and 1848 DeRight from Holland. He was the son of Robert E. DeRight, chemistry PhD and President of DuPont Far East, and Marion Flaherty.
Robert graduated at age 14 from Salesianum High School (Wilm), Reed College, Yale Law School; Army Language Corps (Chinese) in Monterey CA, then Okinawa. He was a longtime legal malpractice lawyer with Epstein, Becker and Green, NY. He also was a round the world traveler - with Tuscany, Australia and New Zealand as favorites - avid history reader, bridge player, theater, opera, film and wine lover.
Robert is survived by Marilyn Goler (brother Ed), son Daniel (Elizabeth) and daughter Kate (Paul; granddaughters Tillie and Greta), sisters Martha DeRight and Mary Lu Geiger (Dale), plus many nephews and nieces. Robert will be remembered as wry, brilliant, loyal, and mischievous.
A memorial service will be held at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Avenue, White Plains, NY on Saturday, February 20th at 1PM. Memorial contributions may be made to OXFAM America.
