Robert Canteen, age 80, after fighting a long battle with Cancer, took his last breath on July 14, 2016 at his home in White Plains, NY.

Born November 8, 1935, Georgetown, SC to the late Julia (Linen) and Rev. Joe Canteen. He was one of twelve children. He graduated from Howard High School, Georgetown, SC in 1957. Shortly after he migrated to Harlem, NY and on November 30, 1957 married his high school sweetheart Lillie Mae Washington.

During his adult life, Robert began his career as a truck driver in 1957 at Horn and Hardart. From there he continued his work at Sigma Industries and finally retired from Momax Company in 2003, at the age of 68.

Surviving family includes his wife of nearly 59 years, Lillie (Mae) Canteen. This union produced four children. Daughter-Roberta Canteen (deceased October 4, 1982), Daughter-Felicia Canteen of White Plains, NY, Son-Roger E. Canteen and spouse Deana Canteen of Gastonia, NC, Son-Darrel Canteen of Crouse, NC. Also survived by two grandchildren Robert A. Grant (Robby) and Antonia Z. Canteen (Nina), and one step-grandson, Hunter Allen.

Surviving Siblings include: Three Sisters: Irene and Thomas (deceased) Lance, Sarah and James Winns, Evelena and Ezikel (deceased) Funny, Two Brothers: Herman and Dorothy Canteen, Ike and Cora Canteen.

Surviving in-laws include: Rosa Lee Murdock, George Washington, Cathleen Buchanan, Bessie and Frank (deceased) Green, John and Ramona Washington, Oreann and Nelson Kempadoo, James and Peggy Washington (both deceased), and Rose Marie and Jimmie Geathers

Further survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

6 Siblings preceded in death: Mack and Maxine Canteen, Benjamin Joe and Flossie Canteen, Samuel and Suzie Canteen, Eliza and Isiah Jiles, Mary and John Barrett, Maggie and Thomas Wright.
