Robert A. Barr

April 22, 1929 — April 22, 2017

Hawthorne

Robert A. Barr on April 22,2017, his 88th birthday, Bob Barr lifelong resident of Mt.Pleasant, passed away peacefully  at Skyview Nursing Home in Croton, N.Y. Bob was born and raised on Barnhart Ave. in North Tarrytown, N.Y. He attended North Tarrytown High School where he was a 3 star athlete in basketball, football and baseball. His love for baseball continued for many years after school and in the service as a windmill softball pitcher. Shaky (a name he hated) was very well known and respected throughout the county both on and off the field. Bob was a veteran of the US Army Air Force during the Korean War. On Nov.25,1950 in the height of a hurricane, Bob married the love of his life and his best friend, Patricia Barr in St. Teresa of Avila Church in North Tarrytown. They had 5 adoring children, Debbie (Donnie) Henken, Robert (Margaret), Michael (MaryJo), Rick (Nina) and Beth (Drew) Roza. They had 12 grandchildren and 5 beautiful great grandchildren. Bob was also predeceased by his parents and two brothers. His “other” family at Gordo’s Restaurant is way too long to list. His many friends and cohorts were always there for him to share a laugh, watch a game, tell a joke and dare we say gossip a little. They watched over his comings and goings and always kept an eye out for his safety. His real family thanks them all for their love and support. Bob was a devoted public servant, he started his long police career as a rookie with the Pleasantville Police Department working his way up the ranks to lieutenant sergeant and sometimes acting chief of police. He retired from the Town of Rye Police Department in 1985. He was owner operator of RAB Security until a year prior to his death.  Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home on Tuesday, 4-8 PM. Funeral Mass, Holy Rosary Church, Hawthorne, N.Y. on Wednesday, 10 AM. Interment, Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. In lieu of flowers donations to Rosary Hill Home, 600 Linda Ave. Hawthorne, N.Y. 10532 would be appreciated.
