It is with great sorrow and a hole in our hearts, that the Gilbert family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Robert Alexander Gilbert of Carmel, New York (formerly of White Plains, New York) who passed away on March 25, 2023 at the age of 82 from chronic kidney disease.
Robert, also known as Bob, Pops, Big Bob or Mr. G., was born on January 2, 1941 in Boston, Massachusetts. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary, his devoted three children; Michelle Carroll, Robert Gilbert, Jr. (Rob) and Cheryl Gilbert Henry; his adoring grandson, Christopher Carroll and his beautiful granddaughters, Brittany Carroll Procopis and Marissa Carroll Ramirez.
As a teenager, Bob left Massachusetts and came to New York in search of a better life. He was multi-talented and worked very hard at various jobs, striving to create a good life for himself and later for his family. While managing Miles Shoe Store in White Plains, New York, he met the love of his life, Mary Bianco. On May 1, 1966 he married Mary at Mount Carmel Church in White Plains, New York. To commemorate their special day, Cheryl and Thomas Henry were married on May 1, 2020. Together Robert and Mary owned and operated American Executive Limousine Company Ltd. for many years.
Bob was a force to be reckoned with, had a great sense of humor and the life of the party at every family gathering. He had a tough, strong and forceful personality, but inside was a complete teddy bear with a heart of gold. He was always willing to help anyone in need and would give the shirt off of his back if it would help someone. Bob was a true family man. Spending time with his family was most important to him.
He loved gardening, model trains and going to the casino. He would get free slot plays and would take Mary out for the afternoon to different casinos where he could forget about his aches and pains and just enjoy himself. He was especially happy when he used the casino's money and came home winning.
Bob will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His voice will ring in our ears and hearts whenever we think of him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob's honor to the National Kidney Foundation.
