Richard Siegler

Richard Siegler, 84, died peacefully on February 13, surrounded by family, after a brief illness. Son of the late Muriel and Henry Siegler, he is predeceased by his devoted wife of 58 years, Brenda Pachter Siegler. He leaves behind a daughter, Lauren Muhlheim, a son-in-law, Eric Muhlheim, and three grandchildren, Henry, Ezra, and Allison Muhlheim.

Born in Yonkers in 1940, Richard attended high school at Horace Mann in New York City. He graduated from Amherst College (1962) and Harvard Law School (1965). Upon graduation from law school, Richard joined the New York City law firm of Stroock and Stroock and Lavan as an associate, where he subsequently became a partner and practiced for more than 55 years, retiring as of counsel in 2020.

Richard served for 30 years as adjunct professor at New York Law School, teaching a course on cooperatives and condominium law. He was also a monthly columnist for the New York Law Journal for many years.

Richard had a life-long fascination with hotels sparked by a 1952 trip to Atlantic City. At age 14 he had a private meeting Conrad Hilton, and he briefly considered a career with Sheraton Hotels. During his legal career, he represented the boards of several Manhattan hotels including, the Sherry-Netherland, the Pierre, The Carlyle, Essex House and The Lombardy.

In retirement, Richard was involved with the stock market and was a Yankee baseball fan. He was a member of Metropolis Country Club for more than thirty years.

Charitable contributions in his memory should be made to Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

Funeral services are on Wednesday, February 19 at 10 am at Congregation Kol Ami in White Plains. Internment at Sharon Gardens in Valhalla.

The family will be sitting shiva Wednesday afternoon and evening, Thursday evening, and Friday afternoon.
