Richard A. Bernstein, 78, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 25, 2025, surrounded by his family: Loving wife of 55 years Amelia (Fishman), daughter Jennifer A. Rothkin, son-in-law Gregg A. Rothkin, son Bradley R. Bernstein, granddaughter Sidney A. Rothkin and grandson Blake A. Rothkin. Richard is lovingly remembered by his son-in-law Robbie A. Bernstein (DeCrevel-Laughlin). Brother-in-law to Melvin and Eve (Korn) Fishman and Edward and Cindy (Phillips) Fishman. Richard was born in Brooklyn, New York to Father Dr. Sidney Bernstein (deceased) and Mother Ethel Helen Bernstein (Shankman) (deceased). Younger brother to Barry Bernstein and sister-in-law Betsy Bernstein (Hirschberger). Uncle to Andrew S. Bernstein, Deborah Volk (Fishman), Diane Blank (Fishman), David Fishman and Bridgette Phillips. A graduate of NYU, Richard held many roles in the business community over his career including: Chairman and CEO of P&E Capital, Inc.; President of P&E Properties, Inc. (former owners of 444 Madison Ave., 260-261 Madison Ave., 250 Park Ave., 711 Fifth Ave., 48 West 48th street as well as many other properties around the country); Chairman R.A.B., Food Group, LLC (including Manischewitz, Rokeach and other consumer brands); Chairman and CEO of Millbrook Distribution Services, Inc.; Chairman and CEO of Western Publishing Group, Inc. (Little Golden Books); Chairman and CEO of General Medical Corp and Harris Wholesale Drug Corp; and Chairman and CEO of Rabco Luxury Goods, LLC. He sat as a trustee on many boards including: The Police Athletic Club of New York City, New York University, The Big Apple Circus, NYU's Hospital for Joint Diseases/Orthopedic Hospital, Stern School of Business, Chase (Chemical Bank) Middle Market Board and Children Affected by AIDS Foundation. Additionally, Richard was a Director of the IDF, Finance Chairman, New York State for Reagan/Bush '84, Chairman, New York Temporary State Commission on Regulation of Lobbying and a member of New York State Legislative Commission on Expenditure Review. Richard ran for Comptroller of the city of New York on the Republican ticket in 1981. An avid collector - he was a passionate, dedicated, loyal friend, father, grandfather and husband. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to his entire care team. In lieu of flowers the family requests considering a donation to The Police Athletic League of New York City, White Plains Hospital or any charity/organization in the support of The State of Israel. Funeral will be held Friday, February 28, 2025, at 11:00 am at Congregation Emanu-El of Westchester.
