Born on February 17, 1930 Departed on October 14, 2023, Rachel Caridi , a longtime resident of the City of White Plains, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday October 14, 2023. She was born in Charny in the province of Quebec, Canada to the late Albert and Yvonne Fontaine on February 17 1930. Rachel was the third child out of twelve brothers and sisters. When she was seventeen years old, her family moved to Drummondville Canada. She met her husband Dominick Caridi when he was a tourist visiting the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec. They corresponded for three years before deciding to get married on May 29, 1952 at Saint Frederic church in Drummondville, who predeceased her on September 25, 2000. She is survived by her daughter Gilda (Jill) Caridi, a son Nicholas Caridi, daughter in law Patricia (Lawrence), is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Kristin (Caridi) Kosek, (John), Dominick Caridi, and Michelle Caridi. She was predeceased by her loving ten brothers and sisters Rachel is also survived by her sister Francis Fanelli and many adoring nieces and nephews who gave her much love and happiness during her lifetime.
Rachel was a devout Catholic and lifelong parishioner of Assumption Church, then Mount Carmel Church in White Plains. Her favorite pastime was knitting, and sewing; she often made costumes for her children and volunteered at Church Street School making costumes for school plays were all labors of love which she gave freely to all. She also loved receiving requests for her famous "chocolate square cake. Her most joyous moments were dedicated to her family, friends and wonderful neighbors during the sixty-nine years she lived in White Plains. Family and friends may visit on Wednesday October 18, 2023, at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 21 W. Stevens Ave, Hawthorne NY, between 4:00-7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church. 2 Broadway, Valhalla NY 10595.
