Philomena M. (Cerro) Daniels

Philomena M. Cerro Daniels of Maplewood, NJ, formerly of White Plains, NY passed away on April 4, 2020. She was born May 3, 1927 in Utica, New York to Peter and Theresa Cerro. She attended Utica schools and graduated from Albany State College for Teachers with both bachelor and master degrees. Philomena received her teacher's license and returned to Utica and taught both biology and social sciences at Proctor High School. In August 1953 she married Walter C. Daniels and moved to White Plains, N.Y. where she continued to teach until the birth of their first son. As the family grew she became involved with the Twin Mothers club, Scouting and other of their children's and local activities. Once the children were in high school she returned to college to study to be a librarian. She was offered a position as a corporate librarian with Lone Star Industries and remained there until her retirement in early 1987. That year she and her husband moved to Florida for 16 years. Philomena joined the St. Petersburgh College Senior coral group and was active. She was involved in condo and local activities and traveled extensively. In 2003 they returned to the northeast to be close to their four children and eight grandchildren. They selected Winchester Gardens in Maplewood, New Jersey. Both were active in resident affairs.

Philomena is survived by her husband Walter C., sons W. Peter, Douglas (Linda) Daniels, twin daughters Theresa (Michael) Jansen and Beatrice (Michael) Zion, and eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Jesus) Pedraza, Brian, Stephen, Douglas, Jr., and Christina Daniels, Elise Zion, Judith (William) Spelman, and Drew Jansen. Private entombment at Ferncliff Mausoleum. A memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
