MAJOR PETER HOWARD STRITZINGER

The Home-going of another faithful "Hero of the Faith", Major Peter Howard Stritzinger came rather suddenly, as his Lord and Master called him to his Final Appointment, his Eternal Reward, last night, August 7, 2013 at 10.35 p.m. from The Good Samaritan Hospice Home in Wexford, Pennsylvania.
Peter and Edith were blessed with the birth of a precious baby boy, Peter Howard Stritzingeron July 8, 1944 in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Born into an Army family, young Peter was dedicated when he was almost one month old, on August 6, 1944 by Brigadier Arthur Bamford. Young Peter grew up in the Wilkes-Barre Corps, being converted on May 8, 1955 at the age of 11. Taking a very active part in YP activities, it was no surprise that young Peter, on November 11, 1952, was enrolled as a Junior Soldier. Peter graduated from Elmer L. Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre in 1962, an excellent student in all subjects. Following a few years away from the Army, he returned with a burning desire to serve his Lord as a Senior Soldier. It was a red letter day for him, when, on April 2, 1961 he stood under the "Army Colors" with a heart ready to serve. This vibrant spiritual fervor led him to take a further step towards Christ, one of accepting "The Blessing of Holiness"; making a firm commitment to live a sanctified life. Growing spiritually, he developed a real desire to follow in the footsteps of Christ.
Peter says that it was at the time of his Conversion that he knew his life's work would be "full-time" for the Lord, however, this was confirmed in later years when working part-time with Corps Officers. Peter applied for "Training", and recorded on his "Backing Papers" are words such as, "a young person of high intelligence"; "great zeal and devotion"; "sensitive to the Holy Spirit". He knew this was his life's Calling, and so enthusiastically began the journey. Peter had a keen heart to lead people to Christ. He enjoyed music, playing a brass instrument, the piano and organ. These gifts were used in ministry when needed.
Peter entered Training from the Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania Corps on September 4, 1962 in Bronx, NY, being part of "The Heroes of the Faith" Session. His first appointment was Sayre, PA, as Assistant Corps Officer, (1964), York, (1965), Corps Officer, (Pro Tem), Carlisle, PA, (1966). It was on July 16, 1966 that Peter and Nellie (Card) were married and began a life-time of team ministry in the following appointments: Pen Argyl, (1966), Scranton Citadel, (1970), York, PA, (1973). In 1979 he was appointed Tri- County Coordinator in Rochester, NY, followed by C.O. at Erie Temple and County Coordinator. Peter mastered great skill in administration and counselling and in 1988 was appointed as Divisional Secretary to Portland, ME, DHQ; in 1993 he was appointed General Secretary in Syracuse, NY, DHQ. During this time he was a delegate to ICO in London England. For eleven years, Peter was the Property Secretary at THQ, (1994), with his final appointment as Officers' Service & Records Department Secretary in 2005. It was from this appointment that he and his wife entered Honorable Retirement on December 1, 2007, having given a combined 89+ years of Service.
During retirement, Peter and Nellie have enjoyed living in Crescent, Pennsylvania which is about 25 miles north of Pittsburgh. As recorded in their Retirement Program, Peter and Nellie have endeavored to live out Proverbs 3, including the words "let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart." Truly love and faithfulness have been the part of Peter's earthly journey; now he will live forever with King Jesus.

Elizabeth lives in Des Moines, Iowa. Catherine, with her husband Fred, live in Westbrook, Maine; they have one son, Freddy and a daughter, Samantha. Christina, with her husband Todd, live in Moon Township, Pennsylvania and have two sons, Andrew and Joshua. Michelle, with her husband Marshall, live in Peterborough, New Hampshire; they have two sons, Baxter and Atticus. Peter is survived by his only sister, Miriam Petrauskas, who lives with her husband Joe, in Kingston, Pennsylvania.In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Salvation Army or Good Samaritan Hospice House of Wexford.
