Pegi Goodman (November 19, 1951 - December 11, 2024) was born in New York to her beloved parents Samuel and Belle Goodman, Pegi was the first in her family to be born in the United States. She graduated from Edgemont High School and went on to Kenyon College as a member of the first class of women, graduating with honors in the pioneering Class of 1973.
Throughout her remarkable career, Pegi established herself as a creative force in the world of design and publishing. As creative director and graphic designer, she worked at some of the most iconic names in media including The Village Voice, Rolling Stone, The American Lawyer, Sports Illustrated for Kids, Golden Books, Marvel Comics, Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel, and, perhaps most beloved by her, Barbie Magazine. In recent years, Pegi's clients included the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Dodge Data and Analytics, Sotheby's Inc., and The Cosmopolitan Club. Pegi's distinctive talent and vision shaped many of the publications she worked on, earning her the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.
Pegi was a devoted mother and cherished wife. She raised her two children, Samuel and Maia, in the home her father built in Edgemont, where she spent much of her own childhood. Her deep love for her family was matched only by her boundless warmth, humor, and generosity toward friends. She was a fierce, loyal friend and an incomparable connector, always bringing people together with her joyful spirit and radiant heart. An avid reader, theater and museum goer, gardener, knitter, puzzler, Pegi was a woman of passion, curiosity, and taste. Whether tending to her garden, nose in a book or enjoying a performance, Pegi always found time to immerse herself in life's art.
Pegi is survived by her adoring husband, Greg Leeds; their children, Samuel Leeds and Maia Leeds; and her sisters, Hannah and Lori. She's preceded by her beloved parents, Samuel and Belle Goodman.
A celebration of life will be held at Congregation Kol Ami on December 15, 2024. Donations may be made to the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society - the organization instrumental in helping her parents rebuild their lives in the United States after surviving the Holocaust.
May Pegi's memory live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
