Nicholas Mercatante

Nicholas Mercatante 80, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and a former longtime resident of Valhalla, N.Y. died on April 3, 2009 at Hudson Valley Hospital in Peekskill, N.Y. He was born on May 2, 1928 to the late Louis and Rose (nee Genodi) Mercatante in Valhalla, N.Y. Nicholas proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of local 456 in Elmsford, N.Y. and a retired truck driver for Robison Oil in Tarrytown, N.Y. and also retired from Arlington School District in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. as a bus driver. Nicholas was a 35 year member of Independent Fire Co. of the Valhalla Fire Dept. He was avid golfer and a member of the Dogwood Knolls Golf Club in Wappingers Falls, N.Y. He is survived by his devoted wife Dorothy (nee Dykstra) Mercatante of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. His loving daughters; Donna Hoag and her husband Stephen of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and Debra Buonassisi and her husband Joseph of Thornwood, N.Y. 2 sisters; Mary DeRuvo of NC and Antionette Nannariello of Thornwood, N.Y. 1 brother Louis Mercatante, Jr. and his wife Marilyn of Ossining, N.Y. Also survived by 8 cherished grandchildren; Joseph, Katie, Kimberly and Keri Buonassisi and Emily, Megan, Russell and Samantha Hoag. Predeceased by 1 brother Al Mercatante (Sonny). No Visiting Hours.
