Nicholas P. Galetta

Nicholas P. Galetta 98, of Thornwood, N.Y. died on Oct.3, 2013 at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. He was born on August 9, 1915 to the late Michele and Perna Galetta in Eastchester, N.Y. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII. Mr.Galetta was a well respected trumpet player in the NY Metropolitan area performing with many bands most notable at the Copa Cabana in NYC. During the big band era in the 30's and 40's he traveled with a number of bands including Jack Jenny and Bobby Byrne. He was predeceased by his devoted wife Christine Galetta in 2002 and by his sisters, Jean Galetta and Rose Duro Galetta. Nicholas is survived by his loving daughters, Nici LaPorte of Pleasantville, N.Y. and Tina (Tom) Weckesser of Rhinebeck, N.Y. also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Tracy N. LaPorte, Major Michael A. LaPorte, Christina Weckesser Ruella and Danielle Weckesser and by his great grandson, Christopher Ruella. Also survived by his brothers, Salvatore and Peter Galetta and his sister, Teresa Galetta. Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home, on Sunday, 4-7 PM. Funeral Mass, Holy Innocents Church, Pleasantville, N.Y. on Monday, 10 AM. Entombment, Ferncliff Mausoleum, Hartsdale, N.Y.
