Nellie Norton, 86 formerly of the Bronx, Yonkers, Lake Worth, Florida and most recently Wappingers Falls, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2019 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Nellie was born on January 31, 1933 in Guayaquil, Ecuador to Delfina and Jacinto Gomez. She was second to the youngest of a family of ten children.
In 1963 Nellie came to the United States with her young daughter, Christine, and settled in the Bronx with family and friends. She worked at a number of jobs over the years always moving onto to better employment opportunities. She eventually went to work for Morgan Stanley as an Accounting Manager. In October 1974 she married Harry Norton in a ceremony in Yonkers. Nellie and Harry enjoyed their life together traveling, cooking and entertaining company. One of Nellie's special joys was her dog Teddy who she enjoyed taking for long walks on the weekends through Van Cortland Park in the Bronx.
Upon her retirement from Morgan Stanley in 1994, she and Harry moved to Lake Worth Florida. She kept busy in retirement with numerous activities including reading, cooking, calligraphy, walking and going to shows and on trips with her neighbors at the condominium community where she lived. Nothing compared, though, to having her grandchildren Paul and William vacation with her and Harry during their school breaks and in the summer.
Nellie was predeceased by her husband Harry as well as all her brothers and sisters. Surviving are her daughter Christine and son in law John O'Brien of Wappingers Falls, NY as well as her grandchildren Paul and William. Nellie was a loving and generous person, mother, grandmother and friend who had a great and full life. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at Vassar Brothers Medical Center for their care in her final days.
