On Saturday, December 21, Maria Malgioglio passed away unexpectedly at the age of 75. Born on Feb 1, 1944 in the former Yugoslavia (now known as Croatia) to Josip & Rosa Brnjac, her extended family suffered much under Nazi occupation. At the young age of 18, Maria emigrated to America by ship in 1962. While working and studying hard, she met our father Serafino, and married him in 1966. They settled in the Bronx, surrounded by many nearby relatives. She became a wonderful mother of two sons, Frank and Joseph, who have flourished with family and careers of their own, no doubt a result of the work ethic and loving kindness instilled by their mother. Taking care of her husband and kids was her priority in life; everything else was secondary. Cooking was her passion; no meal was complete without a multitude of entrees, and no one left the table without being full. The greatest joy in her life, however, was her five beautiful grandchildren-Nicholas, Raymond, Joseph, Colin, and Gianna. Each one of them carries a part of their Nonna with them.
We can't believe that our dear mom is gone so suddenly but take comfort in knowing that her passing was without suffering and that Dad was waiting with open arms up above. Things will not be the same without you here, but we know you will be watching over us always. All your caring and sacrifices for us will not be forgotten. We will love you deeply forever and cherish your memory every single day. Until we meet again...
