Agnes Bostonian, 96 years old, passed away on January 1, 2021. Agnes graduated from Prospect Heights High School in Brooklyn in 1941 and majored in Art - Costume Designing and was in the Altiora (the Honor Society). Agnes attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. In April 1943, Agnes was hired to work for fashion designers Mainbocher in New York City. Mr. Bocher found a star in Agnes, and she made dresses for the editor of Vogue Magazine, the Duchess of Windsor aka Wallis Simpson, Ethel Merman, Barbara "Babe" Paley, Mary Martin, Ruth Gordon, Rosalind Russell. Agnes' work can be found in the American Fashion Book under Mainbocher's name. Agnes worked for Mainbocher for nine years. In 1976, Agnes returned to work at a local boutique, after the doors closed, Agnes worked at Bloomingdale's and Bonwit Teller as the manager of the Alteration's Department, where she retired in 1990. Agnes leaves behind a son, John Bostonian III and daughter-in-law, Eileen Bostonian, in Branchville, NJ, and her daughter, Helen Wiklund, in Cary, NC, and two grandchildren, Gregory Wiklund, in Wrightsville Beach, NC, and Timothy Wiklund, in Wilmington, NC.
In lieu of flowers a donation May be made to St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Ardsley, NY or the Alzheimer's Association.
