Mildred R. "Millie" Uttley, 88, of White Plains died on Thursday at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx after a long illness.
A homemaker and an avid baker, she delighted friends and relatives with her plates of Christmas cookies, her apple pies, her cream puffs and her champagne punch. She enjoyed crewel embroidery and gardening, especially her African violets and prize roses, and had a large collection of teddy bears.
She was active in a number of community organizations, including the White Plains Women's Club, the Exchange Club of White Plains and the seniors group of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. She was recently honored as a 30-year volunteer for Burke Rehabilitation Hospital and had volunteered at St. Agnes Hospital before it closed.
A native of Springfield, MA, she was the devoted wife of Robert A. Uttley of Cranston, RI. They moved to White Plains in 1954. He predeceased her, passing away in 1986.
She is survived by her son, William B. Uttley and his wife, Sara Beilis, of Manhattan; her daughter, Lois J. Uttley, and her partner, Susan Kaplow, of Averill Park, NY, and Manhattan; her nephew, Kenneth Uttley and his wife, Vera, of Cranston, RI; and her dear neighbors, Marianne and Joe Reilly and their son, Patrick. She was grateful for her many wonderful friends from the Women's Club, Exchange Club and Our Lady of Sorrows Church, especially Mary Lou Kristiansen, Dorothy O'Brien, Betty Madonia and Edna Tedesco.
Interment will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. A reception at the Women's Club of White Plains will follow.
