After living and loving life for 91 years, Mildred Louise Hoag (Milme)passed away peacefully on October 21, 2014. She was born in White Plains, New
York on February 13, 1923 to Mildred and Jerry Carideo. She had one sister, Barbara Carideo Jones who predeceased her. After graduating from White Plains High School, Milme went to work for World Broadcasting Corporation in New York City until shortly before her marriage to Russell J. Hoag, also from White Plains, on August 5, 1945. After living for a year in Daytona Beach, Florida she returned to White Plains, living there until 1957, when she moved to Valhalla, New York where she lived the rest of her life. She worked for 20 years as a secretary in the Guidance Office at Milme said that volunteering is the dues you pay to the community and she enthusiastically lived her words wearing many different hats. She was an active member of the White Plains Presbyterian Church for almost 70 years where she taught Sunday School and up until recently, worked two days a week in the church thrift shop. Throughout her lifetime she was a Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Valhalla Fire Department Women's Auxiliary, a member of the White Plains Women's Club, and she baked thousands of Christmas cookies for the Montrose Veteran's Hospital over the years. She was an avid reader, and she loved to spend time gardening. She also loved music. She played the piano and sang, passing on her love of music and the songs she grew up with to succeeding generations in her family. Milme enjoyed a long retirement with her husband. They traveled and spent time with their family and the many friends they made when they moved to Valhalla. She is survived by her husband Russell J. Hoag and her 3 children, Patricia Hoag Adams, Barbara Hoag Helgesen, and Stephen Hoag. She also lived to know and be loved by eight grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 2PM at the White Plains Presbyterian Church 39 North Broadway, White Plains, New York.
