Mildred Minogue Hawks, 102 of Hawthorne, N.Y. died on December 9, 2020 at her residence.

She was born in New York City on March 4, 1918 to Mildred Golden Minogue and Thomas Gerard Minogue. She was raised in Greenwich, Connecticut where she attended school. After her husband Elmer Hawks returned from serving in WWII, they got married on March 8, 1947 at St. Mary’s Church in Greenwich, CT. Mildred and Elmer never had any children but they enjoyed their external families and friends. Mildred and Elmer enjoyed their time together until his death in 2001. They traveled all over the U.S. and the world together. Mildred worked for the Reporter Dispatch for 42 years in the advertising department. At the time of her retirement the company planted a tree on its grounds with a plaque containing the inscription “May the tree and Mildred stand forever.” Mildred was a parishioner of the Holy Rosary Church and a member of the Rosary Altar Society. She served as a secretary to the Hawthorne Fire Department and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for many years, always taking pride in marching in its parade.

Mildred was also a member of the Mt. Pleasant Historical Society and a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Hawthorne, N.Y. On March 4, 2020 Mt. Pleasant Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi attended Mildred’s 102 nd birthday at her home. He presented her with a proclamation for being an outstanding citizen who has enriched the lives of our community and residents of Mt. Pleasant. Wednesday March, 4 2020 was proclaimed as Mildred Hawks Day in the town of Mt. Pleasant.  Mildred was a gifted artist and painted in mostly pastels.

Mildred is survived by her nieces Ann (Rocco) Mancini, Patricia Hawks, Caroline Gigantino and nephew Michael Fessenden and great nieces Margaret, Eileen, and Roxane.
