Michelina Sammarco Buonassisi

A Strong, Selfless and Caring Woman

Michelina Buonassisi, 96, died peacefully at White Plains Hospital on Thursday, July 6, 2023. She was born in her home in Orsara di Puglia, Italy on October 5, 1926 to Antonia Frisoli and Leonardo Sammarco. She grew up in Orsara, and married Leonardo Buonassisi there on December 27, 1941. In October 1956 she immigrated to the United States, living in White Plains, North White Plains and Mount Kisco, New York.

Michelina is survived by her loving children, daughter Rocchina Frisoli, son Michael Buonassisi, son-in-law Leonardo Frisoli, daughter-in-law Patrice Buonassisi, grandchildren Gregory Frisoli and wife Pamela, Michael Buonassisi and wife Sarah, and Kristen Mauthe and husband Brian, great grandchildren Kiki Frisoli, Leonardo Frisoli, Oliver Frisoli, Matteo Buonassisi and Gianna Mauthe. She is predeceased by her husband Leonardo Buonassisi and granddaughter Tanya Frisoli.

Her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, were her greatest joy. They always brought a big smile to her face. She was an amazing cook and baker, who loved preparing food and desserts for her family and friends. She will always be remembered for her many specialties, including eggplant parmigiana, ravioli, bread, pizza, pies, cakes and biscotti. Her kind and loving ways will be missed by all who knew her.

Calling hours are scheduled for Sunday July 9th, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hawthorne Funeral Home (Ballard Durand of Hawthorne), 21 West Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, NY. The funeral mass is scheduled for Monday, July 10th at 10 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 2 Broadway, Valhalla, NY, followed by entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
