On May 12 th 2020 , Mayr a Altagracia Garcia , began a new chapter, eternal life. Mayra was b orn Dece mber 15 th 1959 , in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic , to Juan and Tirsa Lopez . She spent the first six years of her life in the Dominican Republic, under the loving care of her Grandmother Noelia and Aunt Iris, as her parents had immigrated to New York in search of a better life. Mayra and her younger sister Rosa joined their parents in 1966, just in time to welcome the arrival of their new baby sister, Grace. Mayra grew up in Washington Heights, surrounded by loving famil y and friends. Mayra was a graduate of Aquinas High School and obtained her BA in Social Work from Lehman Colle ge. An adoring mother to Christopher and Amanda Garcia, h er children were her proudest achievement and her greatest love.
An avid fan of romance novels, dark chocolate , and red lipstick, Mayra embodied glamour and passion. They say that life often imitates art. Mayra lived her life as the heroine of her own novel. She stared adversity in the face, decked in her signature red lipstick and black eyeliner . Her mantra, inspired by Gloria Gaynor, was "I Will Survive", and that she did . Mayra's legacy will live on through her adoring family and friends .
She is survived by her children, Christopher and Amanda Garcia, her father , Juan B. Lopez, her sisters Rosa Ferrer and Grace Trabakino (Frank), her niece Jennifer Amicucci (Dario), nephews Kenneth Ferrer and Aa ron Trabakino , and her great nephews Dario Jr and Matteo Amicucci , and her adoring great niece, Christina Amicucci .
