Mauro Durso. 73, of Carmel and Formerly of Valhalla, NY, Died July 22, 2004 in Rosary Hill Home, in Hawthorne, NY. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, July 1, 1931 to Leonardo and Isabella ( nee Stallone) Durso. Mauro loved his God and his faith, his family and relatives, his friends, the children, teachers and parents he worked with throughout his educational career, and the Christian Community of his parish, the Cursillo Movement, and Marriage Encounter. During his 42 years devoted to educating young children, he taught in school districts on Long Island and in the Bronxville Public School for many years. He also was an instructor at Sarah Lawrence College. Mr. Durso was Principal of Bronxville Public Elementary School, Immaculate Conception School, in Tuckahoe, NY and Saint Joseph School, Bronxville, NY. He was President of the Bronxville Teachers Association, chairman of the first Parish Council at Holy Name of Jesus Parish, lector and Eucharistic Minister, and also served in other parish programs. Mauro has been active participant of the Cursillo Retreat Movement of the N.Y. Archdiocese for 32 years and also served as its Lay Director. Mauro is survived by his wife Nancy (nee DiLello) Durso of Carmel, NY, two sons Stephen Durso and wife Barrie Leigh of New York City, and Christopher Durso and wife Victoria of Pound Ridge, NY, one brother Michael Durso of Ellenville, NY, one sister Frances Lankowicz of Bohemia, NY. Two Grandsons Trevor and Connor and many nieces and nephews. Reposing Hawthorne Funeral Home Saturday 7 - 9 PM and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
