Mattie Juanita Hunter

Mattie Juanita Hunter, aged 73, of White Plains, NY passed away peacefully on September 29th, 2024, after a courageous battle with ALS that spanned nearly two decades. Born on March 10, 1951, Mattie was known for her indomitable spirit, unwavering determination, and the love she shared with everyone around her.

Throughout her life, Mattie was a beacon of hope and inspiration. As a certified nurse's aide, she dedicated herself to caring for others and finding joy in the little things.She embraced each day with resilience, even as she faced the challenges of her illness. Her passion for playing Bingo and volleyball brought light to those who knew her, and her kindness left a lasting impact on her community.

Mattie Juanita Hunter is survived by her son, Andre Hunter and sisters Valerie Summers and Elizabeth "Liz" Jenkins. She is also survived by her two grandchildren Andra Espinoza-Hunter and Stiven Espinoza-Hunter; nieces/nephews Michael Jenkins, Lisa Jenkins-Kirkland, Wesley Jenkins, Wanda Summers-Walkers, Quincy Summers, Michael Summers, Ceany Evans, Erika Daniels, Jessica Daniels, Preston Daniels, Angela Daniels, and a host of grand nieces/nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter Lisa Hunter; parents, Jesse and Martha Danies; her husband, James Hunter; and her brother Jesse Daniels. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, including friends, caregivers, and the many lives she touched throughout her journey.

In honor of Mattie's memory, the family invites all to celebrate her life and legacy at a memorial service on Monday, October 14th at Ballard and Durrand. In lieu of other flowers, the family requests that those wishing to bring floral tributes consider red roses, which were a favorite of Mattie's.
