On Tuesday October 31st Mary Lynn Myllek died peacefully at the age of 87 at her home in Ossining New York.
Mary was born May 29th, 1936, to Mr. and Mrs. Michael McTigue of Elmsford. While living in Elmsford she attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel school and graduated from Alexander Hamilton High School in 1954. While a senior at Alexander Hamilton she met the love of her life Victor William Myllek. They married in 1958 and 65 years later remained in loving matrimony. In 1988 they moved from Elmsford to Hawthorne NY before finally settling in Ossining in 2006.
Mary worked at the GM plant in Tarrytown and as a clerk in the tax office in Greenburgh where residents would state the only good thing about paying their taxes is that they got to see Mary. Additionally, she remained an active parishioner of Mt. Carmel church in Elmsford and St. Augustine church in Ossining where she was a member of the knitting circle.
Mary loved life and lived each day like it was a celebration. She enjoyed music, dance - she personified the saying "dance like no one is watching" - and no day was complete without a glass of Pinot Grigio. She loved to travel with family going to her beloved Ireland twice and Germany once. After her trip to Germany, she often wondered why the Irish had the reputation as the biggest drinkers. She also spent many summers at the beaches of Cape May with her grandchildren and for many years would spend winters with her grandchildren in Arizona.
No mention of Mary would be complete without mentioning the absolute love for her family both immediate and extended. She was a dedicated loving mother and devoted grandmother.
Mary was preceded in death by her father Michael McTigue and sister Leila Kerr. She is survived by her husband Victor, her two awesome sons Michael Gregory of White Plains, Christopher of Ossining, daughter in law Debbie Myllek and grandchildren Michael Myllek II of New York City, Kristen Myllek of White Plains, Christian Acedo and Shane Myllek both of Arizona and great grandchild Myles Bravo.
Viewing hours will be Saturday November 4th at Ballard Durand funeral home in Elmsford and a funeral mass will be held Monday November 6 at 10 am in St. Augustine church in Ossining.
